What is an OCI Card?

OCI stands for Overseas Citizen of India. It is issued to those who with to have a citizenship of India, but hold the passport of another country. Note: an OCI card is not accepted as a visa into India unless it has the visa sticker in it. If you want visa-free entry, you need to make sure that this sticker is included when

you apply for an OCI Card. Below are a few of the reasons why you should apply for an OCI card.

� It gives a Multiple use and multiple entry visa into India.  
You will not need to register with an officer when you are staying in India.
Equal rights as an NRI when it comes to education and finances.
 

Privileges Of An OCI Card.

With OCI Card, a foreigner has the following rights:

1.

The lifetime Indian visa sticker. Note: You will still need to carry your foreign passport as well.
2. Again, you will not need to report to the police when coming and staying in India.
3. Equality between OCI card holders and NRIs - Non Resident Indians in some situations.

With OCI Card, a foreigner DOES NOT have the following rights:

1. Vote: An OCI card does not give the Right to vote in
India.
2. Hold Office: OCIs cannot hold some offices in India, such as, parliament or cabinet positions.
3. Hold Government Posts: OCIs cannot hold any government posts/positions.
